About Us
The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation (Wurundjeri Corporation) is a Registered Aboriginal Party appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. The Corporation holds statutory responsibilities for the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage and Aboriginal intangible heritage on Wurundjeri Country. Additional functions of the Corporation include, environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremonies, research and cultural consultations.
About the Role
The Research Unit undertakes anthropological and historical research dedicated to increasing our knowledge and understanding of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung ancestors, Country and culture to further the aims of the Corporation and community.
The Research Officer supports the Research Unit’s work and projects by assisting with data collection and the preparation of technical reports as directed. Other duties include audio transcribing and data entry; assisting in the facilitation of meetings, workshops and on-Country activities; maintenance of research materials and other administrative tasks.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide research support for the Wurundjeri Research Unit.
- Assist with the preparation of reports and correspondence.
- Undertake research assistance such as literature reviews, analysis of anthropological and historical materials, transcribing of interviews and data entry.
- Such other tasks as required to support the operation of the Research Unit.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in anthropology, Indigenous studies, history (Australian) or archaeology or associated social sciences.
- Applied experience working with Indigenous Australian communities and organisations would be well regarded.
- A proven track record in ethnographic and qualitative research.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to conduct all duties in a confidential and culturally sensitive manner.
- Knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures and associated matters including cultural safety and social issues.
