Notes / Special Instructions

You are only able to make a booking via the online form above. Once you make a booking you will be sent a confirmation email with a booking reference number. Your booking will then be processed, and we will be in contact with you to allocate an Elder to your event approximately 7 days prior to your event date. Please do not try to contact us before then.

To help us manage the influx of event bookings, we ask that you do not contact us about your booking until an Elder has been allocated to your event, which will occur approximately 7 days prior to your event date. Alternatively, if your event is less than 4 days away you can email us back with ‘URGENT’ in the subject line and we will get back to you as soon as possible – we thank you for your patience and understanding during this busy time.

To book an upcoming event, please fill out the online form at: https://www.wurundjeri.com.au/request-council-traditional-ceremony

If you want to book a separate smoking ceremony (for cultural reasons only), please email/respond with the date, time, your name, and contact details and we’ll be in touch.

To help you plan for your event, here are some frequently asked questions:

  • Elders do not wear specific cultural/traditional dress. Please respect our ways of being and do not ask for this at any time.
  • Please be aware that we no longer offer a not-for-profit discount. Again, to avoid embarrassment, please do not ask for a discounted rate.
  • Elders will bring all the materials they need to perform a ceremony – you do not need to supply anything for a Welcome to Country, or Smoking Ceremony.
  • An invoice will be sent to you following the completion of your event.

Wurundjeri is not able to provide a run sheet for your event. To assist you to plan for the ceremony please note the following:

  • A Welcome to Country can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes to complete.
  • A Welcome to Country with a Smoking Ceremony can take between 5-20 minutes, depending on how many guests are in attendance.
  • A Digeridoo (Yidaki) performance can take between 5-10 minutes.

Please keep in mind that these times are an approximate only. Please respect our cultural practices and do not ask to modify ceremony times to fit in with your event – ensure you have enough time allocated for the full and proper cultural ceremony to occur before booking.

Wurundjeri's payment terms are 14 days from invoice date. In the event where your overdue account is referred to a collection agency and/or law firm, you will be liable for all costs which would be incurred as if the debt is collected in full, including legal demand costs.
